Introducing the Childhood Dementia MOOC
While dementia is often associated with ageing, more than 100 rare genetic disorders can cause dementia in children. Childhood dementia affects thousands of young people globally, yet awareness remains low. Families frequently face long diagnostic journeys, limited treatment options, and a lack of public understanding. The Childhood Dementia MOOC aims to change that. This new course will explore:
What childhood dementia is and how it differs from adult-onset dementia
The genetic and biological causes behind the condition
The lived experiences of children and families
Current research, care approaches, and emerging treatments
How communities, educators, and health professionals can offer meaningful support
It’s designed for anyone—parents, teachers, clinicians, students, or simply those who want to understand this devastating condition and be part of the movement for change.
By raising awareness and building knowledge, the Childhood Dementia MOOC has the potential to reshape how society sees and supports affected children and their families.
Our MOOCS are Free, Accessible, and Open to All In a world where education often comes with a price tag, the Wicking Dementia Centre remains committed to removing barriers. Every MOOC is:
